Foreword
This is a Memorial Volume, published in honour of the Centenary of William Quan Judge's birth on 13th April 1851. He lived in a borrowed body, which he laid aside on 21st March 1896. For 21 years he served the Theosophical Cause as few have done. As a faithful colleague and pupil of H. P. Blavatsky he saw the Lines laid down by her and her Masters; participated in the task of producing in 1877 Isis Unveiled; founded and edited at New York The Path; laboured to propagate Theosophy and built up a splendid Society in the U.S.A. His was a calumniated reputation but he shines in his writings with Truth, Humility and Gentle Service to all minds, thus giving the lie to his detractors.
The history of the Theosophical Movement, when read dispassionately and with insight, reveals W. Q. Judge to be a hidden Raja Star whose writings offer not only sweet flowers of beauty and purity but also luscious fruits, nourishing the heart of the student, elevating his mind. Profound but simple, his exposition holds life-giving waters to assuage the thirst alike of the playful child, the mental athlete, the quiet thinker and the devoted aspirant. By the expression of Pure Buddhi he elevates the mind of man to noble heights.
In Vernal Blooms some of his writings were published in book form in 1946 to mark the 50th year since his passing. This is a companion volume, published to mark the 100th birth anniversary of this Great Theosophist whom H. P. B called "the greatest of the exiles."
These articles will lead the eager and discerning student to the Heart of the Wisdom which brings the Peace which passes understanding and the Compassion which encompasses the whole mind of the Race.
